1. For Residents: "Where does this go?"
| Question~Answer | |
|---|---|
| Pizza Boxes: Wet or Dry? | It depends on the grease. |
| * Clean Lid: Tear it off and put it in the **Blue Bin** (Dry). | |
| * Greasy Bottom: If it has oil/cheese stains, it cannot be recycled. Put it in the **Green Bin** (Wet) if you compost, otherwise it goes to **Reject Waste**. | |
| Milk Packets | **Blue Bin (Dry)**, but strictly follow the **"Cut-Clean-Dry"** rule: |
| 1. Cut straight across (Don't cut the small triangle piece off; it creates microplastic litter). | |
| 2. Rinse with water to remove milk residue (prevents smell). | |
| 3. Dry it before throwing. | |
| Coconut Shells | **Green Bin (Wet)**. |
| * //Note:// They take a long time to decompose. If you have a home composter, crush them first. If giving to Municipal collection, put them in Green. | |
| Egg Shells | **Green Bin (Wet)**. Crush them to speed up composting. |
| Hair & Nail Clippings | **Yellow Bin (Sanitary)**. |
| * While they are biodegradable, most municipalities classify them as sanitary waste to avoid "yuck factor" in community compost pits. | |
| Medicines & Syringes | **Red/Black Bin (Hazardous)**. |
| * Never flush medicines down the toilet (it pollutes water). | |
| * Wrap syringes in a newspaper or hard plastic bottle to prevent pricking the waste collector. | |
| Tetra Packs (Juice/Milk) | **Blue Bin (Dry)**. |
| * You must flatten them. Some cities require you to rinse them first. | |
| Clothes / Old Shoes | **Blue Bin (Dry)**. |
| * Tie them in a separate bag so they don't get soiled by other dry waste. |
2. For RWAs & Managers: Enforcement
| Question~Answer | |
|---|---|
| "My maid refuses to segregate." | It is the **Employer's (Your)** responsibility to train them. |
| * Action: Use our Visual Charts in the kitchen. | |
| * Rule: If the maid mixes waste, the **Flat Owner** pays the fine, not the maid. | |
| "Residents dump waste at the gate at night." | Install a CCTV camera at the gate. |
| * Under SWM 2026, you can levy a "Spot Fine" on the resident if you have video proof. Add this to their maintenance bill. | |
| "The municipal truck mixes everything!" | This is the #1 excuse residents use to stop segregating. |
| * The Truth: Even if the truck looks like a single container, many modern compactors have internal dividers. | |
| * The Law: Even if the Municipality is non-compliant, **YOU** (the Generator) are liable for the fine if an inspector checks //your// bins before the truck arrives. Don't lower your standards. | |
| "How often should we collect waste?" | **Wet Waste:** Daily (Must). |
| **Sanitary Waste:** Daily (Must). | |
| **Dry Waste:** Twice a week is usually enough (saves labor costs). |
3. Technical & Process Queries
| Question~Answer | |
|---|---|
| What is "Reject Waste"? | Waste that is neither recyclable nor biodegradable. |
| * Examples: Sweeping dust, heavily soiled food wrappers, broken ceramics. | |
| * This is the //only// waste that should go to the landfill. | |
| Do we really need a Red Bin? | **Yes.** |
| * Even if you generate only 1 CFL bulb or battery a month, you cannot throw it in Dry/Wet. Keep a small Red box at the security gate for the whole society if individual red bins are too expensive. | |
| Can we burn dry leaves? | **ABSOLUTELY NOT.** |
| * Burning waste attracts a fine of **₹5,000 to ₹25,000** under the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders. Composting leaves is the only legal option. |
